So you wanna listen to your own music through the stereo your Sim owns? Well it's as simple as ABC 123... really.

All you have to do is go into 'Documents', 'Electronic Arts', 'The Sims 3, 'Custom Music' and voila. You are there. All you need to do is paste in the music files that you want. Once they're there they're in the [Custom Music] selection on the stereo, your music will play. Just skip through to what you want. To get to [Custom Music] on the stereo you just have to go through [Change To].
